This is my typical tech support face - annoyed getting to a person and once I do, I have to talk through the BS questions so that they understand I've done all of the tier one stuff and need someone who can help with an actual problem.

Yes, I've restarted the modem. Yes, I've restarted my machine. Yes, I'd like to continue. Sheesh!

going vintage

The P's sent me an old camera they got from a friend who was into photography in the 70's. It's a pretty cool piece - H E A V Y - and even had a roll of film loaded. Not sure if it had already been exposed, but would be kind of fun to have it developed and see if anything came out.

I don't see myself switching to film - I love the flexibility of digital - but it's a great addition to my vintage camera collection!

I am a gadget geek - I can't help it - it's in my blood!  This past week has been the week of the iPad.  I was so happy when it arrived on Monday I could hardly stand it.   I had to wait to get home from work to get it up and running, apps transferred and etc.  I only have a few iPhone apps that have been updated to fit the iPad proportions, so I have lots that are still small in the middle of my iPad screen - looks totally funny!

I went with the 32g 3G + wi-fi knowing I'll use it mostly wi-fi.  I figure having the ability to go mobile with it would come in handy from time to time.  The timing of my purchase could not have more critical for the 3G plans.  In order to get "unlimited" 3G surfing I had to sign up the day I received the device.  I did not want to do that, but my had was forced by AT&T - only days later the unlimited option was gone from their website.  As I understand it, those with the unlimited plans are grandfathered in as long as they continue to renew each month.  The first time I drop it, I'm out.  Boo!

Anyhoo, My first week with this baby has been up and down.  I find myself a little frustrated with things and that's unusual for me with a new device.  I think my frustrations are that I WANT this to be a baby computer when it's really a baby iPod touch... I thought it would be a great sofa surfing device, and it is, but it's kind of awkward.  Do I hold it with one hand and touch with the other?  Do I sit with my knees up so I can tilt the screen and use both hands?  What if I put a pillow under it, will that help???  Maybe the key is with one of the jackets that protects and provides a tilt... dunno.

So far, I am most impressed with the photo albums.  I think a photographer would benefit huge from this device, having a dynamic way to show a portfolio on a beautiful screen... nice!  I could even see it for designers, once they have the PDF reader ready, showing clients schematics one on one.

What I don't love is web surfing.  I know!  I know!  I can hardly believe I'm typing this, but I don't.  Websites automatically load in "mobile" mode - that's not what I want - and it's very difficult to change them back to regular web pages.  I am a huge user of Google Reader for my RSS feeds.  That too loads mobile, and even when changed back to regular view, does not work properly.  I had to purchase an app ($7) to read my Google feed.  I don't like having to purchase apps for something that should work in Safari like it does on my desktop/laptop.  Grr!

I am sure I will find that magic sweet spot, but it's a little slower coming that I had hoped.

This is the worlds best french macaron, made by yours truly. Dutch chocolate shell macaron with chocolate ganache and caramel filling and a pinch of fleur de sel - heaven!
I am off to one of my BF's wedding and decided to treat my fellow bridesmaids to some homemade french macarons for a pre-wedding spa day treat. I hope they like them - it only took me three days total to get them together. Let's hope they make it through the airport without any problems!!

What better place to take my SP for the 52 week project than in the dressing room of the famous Chicago Theater?? I have to say, the dressing rooms are pretty awful. I know it's historic, but they could use a serious upgrade! The tour was pretty cool - you get to see a good portion of the theater and they give you a nice history of the place - not enough time to set up any tripod shots tho... Am hoping the photos I took aren't complete crap. Went to start processing them and my iMac hard drive crashed... not loving that! I have a date with an Apple Store genius in an hour. Sheesh!

get fit!

Summer is coming and I'm coming off of several years of feeling like crap and now it's time to get back in shape!! It's going to be a long road, but slow and steady wins the race, right? I am back in the gym and because it's been SO nice (weather wise) I've been taking advantage of living near the lake and walking along the path! I've invested in a new pair of shoes - fit specifically to me, a supinator! And I have to say that since I've had these shoes, I can really tell a difference in how I walk and how I feel after I've worked out. Onward!
