mam :: hear no evil

I love the front gallery of the Milwaukee Art Museum and always leave it till the end, because they always have something really cool in there.  More of an experience rather than just art on the walls, like other areas of the building.  Today it was Yue Minjun: Chinese Contemporary Warriors "hear no evil."  They're pretty powerful. I just love it when I can get up close and personal with sculpture like these. MIngle.  Contemplate.  Admire.

As I wandered among the sculptures, I thought hmmm...   That's a bit how I feel these days.  Sometimes we get too wrapped up in our own shit to listen.  Maybe it's time we open ourselves up.  Do more than listen.       Hear.

learn to letterpress

I ran across a cute little paper goods booth at the Custer Street Fair last weekend and apparently they offer classes on screen printing, block printing, book binding and letterpress!  I have always wanted to learn how to letterpress, but not sure if I could commit to a 10 week course!!  She told me that you use authentic equipment and that's the reason for the class length - people used to apprentice for years to learn the craft.  What's really good is that they offer studio time, so after you complete the course you can rent time to come in and create your own goods.  Hmmm..... It sounds like so much fun!!!  I might think about doing it in the fall, you know when time spent inside is a good thing!

Marc Johns — Serious Drawings Book

Media_httpstaticshopi_ggubg

I've been following Marc Johns work for some time - first saw his art on Flickr moons ago. I love his humor and the fact that he creates affordable art. He is currently selling some of his drawings for $20 and I recall him selling his post-it drawings for pretty cheap a while back too. I was soooo excited when I saw he had published much of his work in a book! Go pick one up - it's the perfect little gift!!
