Milwaukee Art Museum: Photo Contest Finalists

One of my images has been chosen among the favorites at the Milwaukee Art Museum! Honored to be among these beautiful images.

"The Milwaukee Art Museum invited visitors to submit their personal photographs of the Calatrava-designed Museum addition, demonstrating how significantly the building has brought a sense of pride in, as well as international attention, to Milwaukee. These are some of our favorite images."

I love the front gallery of the Milwaukee Art Museum and always leave it till the end, because they always have something really cool in there.  More of an experience rather than just art on the walls, like other areas of the building.  Today it was Yue Minjun: Chinese Contemporary Warriors "hear no evil."  They're pretty powerful. I just love it when I can get up close and personal with sculpture like these. MIngle.  Contemplate.  Admire.

As I wandered among the sculptures, I thought hmmm...   That's a bit how I feel these days.  Sometimes we get too wrapped up in our own shit to listen.  Maybe it's time we open ourselves up.  Do more than listen.       Hear.

twenty seven of thirty :: milwaukee

(27) from a distance :: Lots to choose from - I spent the day in Milwaukee at my favorite museum, the Milwaukee Art Museum. It's the 10 year anniversary of the Calatrava building and they have an exhibit going on thru the end of the year about the design process and construction. The scale models are sick! And it was super cool to see the different iterations of the design. I have photographed this place maybe four or five times, and just cannot get enough.

I wandered around the museum and then out along the lake front - there were a ton of boats on the water. It was the perfect day for sailing... a little windy. My hair was a bit of a nest by the time I got back to the car. Yikes!

Despite the wind, it was the most beautiful day. Sunny and warm. I love warm Fall days. The colors in the trees just seem so rich and full. Hope you had a beautiful day where ever you are!

I am both intrigued and freaked out by this guy - he's pretty realistic. I've never bothered to walk up really close or around behind him and found all sorts of new interesting details. Who knew he had a brush and tape measure in his back pocket? Oh and his hair is showing it's age and pulling away a bit.

I found it funny that they have posted a sign now showing the wear and tear on him because of people touching him. DO NOT TOUCH THE ART!

This is another one of those "modern art" pieces that I don't really understand. How is chalky rock dangling from a string considered art?

Yes, it looks cool hanging there, but what does it mean? Why is this significant enough to be hanging in an art museum? I'm sure these are the things going through this woman's head... it's what went through mine!

Can anyone tell me what you have to do to get your photos seen on Flickr? I mean really? I used to have a ton of visitors to my stream and now it's a few hit or misses from my current contacts. I get a random add of a new contact, but rarely any comments. I have not had one photo in "explore" for the last year and a half, maybe more. How does that work? I think my work has gotten better, so why was it more recognized in the early day?

I will admit I'm not super involved in groups or commenting on other streams, but do check from time to time and comment/fav when something really stands out. I've hit explore a few times during my last visits and it seems to be all the same streams OR completely random crap. Is there some algorithm that pulls this stuff?

The above image was uploaded last night. I received one comment & fav from one contact and it has been viewed eight, yes, EIGHT times. How is that possible? I mean, I know it's because only my contacts are looking at my stream, but how is that possible?

I don't ask these questions because I need recognition or validation, but I simply find it odd that the activity on my stream has come to a complete halt. I miss seeing what people have to say. That's why I joined Flickr in the first place - I learn from my peers. Now it seems that Flickr is nothing more than another version of photo sharing.

Maybe I should blame it on social media. : )

Found this link and find it somewhat helpful, but not really.  I know he has amazing work and a sh*t ton of views!

sunday fun day

Made another trip to the Milwaukee Art Museum today with Barbara and her mother. I had seen a photo on Flickr of the painted ribs and was itching to shoot those myself.

Traffic sucked getting there, and I picked "kids" day, but it all worked out and we had a great time walking around viewing the collection. This is the first time I've actually seen the whole collection on the main floor - still haven't seen everything upstairs. They really do have some nice work and the Warhol exhibit was quite good.

We hit another Wisconsin favorite, the Mars Cheese Castle for cheese and more. This was my first visit and I was quite surprised at the size of this place. It's a grocery, bakery, wine shop, gift shop and even has a restaurant/bar! I picked up some smoked cheddar that is so strong it's made the whole fridge smell smokey. Mmmmm.

The final stop on our way home was at the Baha'i House of Worship. I attempted a few handheld shots, should have upped the ISO, while we walked around and enjoyed the gardens and the amazing architecture. This place is simply stunning. The ornate work both inside and out is something you really must see. I will have to take a tripod back to get some proper shots of this place. I'm loving the fountains. Maybe I'll put that on the list to do this weeks since it's supposed to be of normal temperatures for this time of year!!
